A top listed robber named Ali Dacoit was killed in a gunfight with police on Monday night around 3:30 am at Kutubullah Char in Jamalpur’s Islampur Upazila. Three other policemen were injured in the incident. 

The deceased Mohammad Ali, chieftain of a robbery group and a warrant accused of the police. 

“Mohammad Ali, chieftain of a robbery group and a warrant accused, was arrested on Monday evening from No. 3 Chinaduli’s Munia Char in Islampur. On information given by him, a drive was conducted at Kutubullah Char to recover arms and drugs. During this, robbers in Kutubullah Char were preparing for the robbery,” said Abdullah Al Mamun, officer-in-charge (OC) of Islampur Police Station.  

“Sensing the presence of police, the robbers started firing. Police also fired back. Later, the body of robber’s chieftain Mohammad Ali Member (Ali Dkat) was recovered from the spot,” he also said.

“A pistol, domestic weapons and narcotics were recovered from the spot. The body was sent for autopsy,” added OC Abdullah.
