After celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr at their village homes, people have started returning to Dhaka from different parts of the country. Crowds of Dhaka-bound people have been seen at various bus terminals in the capital since Sunday morning.
People are returning to Dhaka from their native homes by changing vehicles multiple times as the government restrictions on the movement of long-distance public buses to curb spread of Covid-18 remain.
After unloading the passengers, the microbuses and private car drivers are going back to different district cities.
At the Abdullahpur bus station, a passenger named Jaglul Haider said, the office is open from today. So I rented a private car and returned to Dhaka from Narsingdi with my family. However, as long-distance buses did not run, he had to reserve the car at a cost of about five times than the usual, he added.
Masud Mahfil Babu, a private employee, reached Mohakhali from Tangail after three hours of journey. He said, after changing different modes of transport, I finally reached the Mohakhali bus terminal.
Several passengers at the terminals said that many of them have returned to Dhaka after changing their vehicles four to five times. Despite suffering on the road, they are happy to return to work in Dhaka after celebrating Eid with their families.
