India's Bengali film actor Yash Dasgupta joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) along with several other actors of the industry on Wednesday.
The actor joined BJP in presence of the party's West Bengal in-charge Kailash Vijayvargiya, BJP national vice-president Mukul Roy and Rajya Sabha MP Swapan Dasgupta.
The development comes just ahead of the West Bengal state assembly elections and is likely to help the BJP as the election campaign intensifies.
"If you want to change the system, you have to be part of the system," Yash Dasgupta said after joining the BJP.
The actor is said to be a close friend of actor-turned-politician and Trinamool Congress (TMC) Lok Sabha MP Nushrat Jahan.
Yash Dasgupta made his Tollywood debut with Gangster opposite Mimi Chakraborty in 2016. Since then, he has featured in Bengali movies like One, Mon Jaane Na, Total Dadagiri, Fidaa and SOS Kolkata.
