Today is the birthday of popular actor Riaz Ahmed. The national award-winning actor has paired up with almost all the popular actresses. Apart from movies, he has also acted in many plays.

Born in Faridpur district in 1972, Riaz spent his childhood at CNB Staff Quarters at Chouhaddi. Father Zainuddin Ahmed Siddique was a government official and mother Arjumand Ara Begum housewife. Riaz is the youngest among his seven siblings.

His first movie ‘Banglar Nayak’ was released in 1995. The following year, he starred in the movies - ‘Ojante’ directed by Dilip Bishwash and ‘Priyojon’ directed by Mohammad Hossain. ‘Priyojon’ is the only film where Riaz played with the late superstar Salman Shah. Later in his career, he got huge success in pairing with Shabnur and Purnima. 

Later, he gifted numerous popular and acclaimed films such as Humayun Ahmed’s ‘Dui Duari’, SA Haque Alik’s ‘Akash Choa Bhalobasha’ and ‘Hridoyer Kotha’, Motiur Rahman Panu’s ‘Moner Majhe Tumi’, Suchanda’s ‘Hazar Bochor Dhore’, Tauquir Ahmed’s ‘Daruchini Dip’, Gazi Mahbub’s ‘Premer Tajmahal’, Wazed Ali Sumon’s ‘Sweet Heart’ etc.

Meanwhile, the Riaz-Shabnur pair was one of the best pairs in the Dhallywood film industry. This pair gifted many commercially successful films like ‘Mon Mane Na’, ‘Bhalobashi Tomake’, ‘Premer Tajmahal’, ‘O Priya Tumi Kothay’, ‘Hridoyer Bandhan’, and ‘Molla Barir Bou’. The pair’s latest film ‘Shiri Farhad’ was released on March 22, 2013.  

On the other hand, the first commercial movie of Riaz-Purnima pair — ‘Ei Jibon Tomar Amar’ — was released in 1997. Other successful films of the pair such as ‘Moner Majhe Tumi’, ‘Hridoyer Kotha’, ‘Shashti’, and ‘Akash Choa Bhalobasha’. 

Besides, he has also acted in several films.

He has won the National Film Best Actor Award three times. The films are 'Dui Duari' (2000), 'Daruchini Deep' (2007) and 'Ki Jadu Karila' (2008).
