Action if anyone influences polls process: EC

Election Commissioner Rafiqul Islam warned today that action will be taken against those, who attempt to influence the overall process for holding the 11th parliamentary election.

EC Rafiqul said “We will take steps even if any secretary or the inspector general of police attempts to influence the polls process,” while he was talking to reporters at the commission office in Dhaka.

He added that the legal measures will be taken based on the specific allegation and the Election Commission (EC) will have to be convinced about the allegation.

About allegation over violation of polls code lodged by different political parties including BNP, Rafiqul said that the EC has already taken some allegations of the party under its consideration.

“We are still reviewing BNP’s allegations and we have already taken some measures in response to their call,” he said.

Responding to a query, he said the commission cannot respond hurriedly to any allegation as it runs through a due process.
