Right-arm pacer of the Bangladesh men's national team Abu Jayed Rahi has been tested positive for COVID-19 positive.
A total of 27 cricketers from the preliminary squad for the probable Sri Lanka series underwent the coronavirus test on Tuesday. All the cricketers except Rahi were tested negative for the virus, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) said in a release on Wednesday.
BCB physician Dr Debashis Chowdhury said, “Pace bowler Abu Jayed Chowdhury Rahi has reported positive for COVID-19. He will receive treatment in isolation for COVID-19 as per guidelines and will undergo further tests in due course.”
Earlier, Debashish said that ahead of the Test series, the host Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC) had formally asked for two COVID-19 tests before leaving Dhaka. The first stage coronavirus test has been conducted as part of it.
In addition to the cricketers, the coaching staff is also tested. A total of 35 samples, including 26 cricketers, were collected.
Earlier, the BCB had tested the cricketers twice on its own initiative.
