Tofail Ahmed, a member of the Awami League’s advisory council, said all have to wait to know who would be nominated for the mayoral post in the upcoming Dhaka City Corporation polls.

“Before this, a meeting of our nomination board will be held under the leadership of party president Sheikh Hasina. There it will be decided who will be nominated,” he said after paying tribute to the former Awami League general secretary Abdur Razzak on the occasion of 8th death anniversary at capital’s Banani graveyard.

Dhaka North and South City Corporation elections will be held on January 30. The Election Commission announced the schedule of the elections on Sunday, he said. “A meeting of our nomination board will be held soon.”

Talking about student politics, Tofail Ahmed said, “I feel embarrassed when I give an opinion about student politics.”

“In our day, there was a difference of opinion, like in 1969 - we formed an All-party Student Community. I was convenor as VP of DUCSU. Our ideals differed with the Matia group, the Menon group and a faction of the Jatiya Chhatra Federation. Although not a norm, we participated in the mass uprising on February 22, 1969, unitedly, forming an 11-point program,” he added.

Regarding the DUCSU VP, the member of the Awami League’s advisory body said that those who are the DUCSU VP should also be careful, speak with caution. “Those that can hurt the opponent’s mind, should not be done.”
