Bangladesh Awami League (AL) paid rich tributes to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on Sunday on the occasion of the Homecoming Day of the great leader.
On Behalf of Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, party's general secretary Obaidul Quader paid the homage by placing wreaths at the portrait of the Father of the Nation in front of Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at Dhanmondi in the capital this morning.
Awami League praesidium members Matia Chowdhury, Jahangir Kabir Nanak, Joint-General Secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif, Dr Hasan Mahmud, AFM Bahauddin Nasim, Organizing Secretary Ahmed Hossain, Afzal Hossain, BM Mozammel Haque, Office Secretary Barrister Biplob Barua, Relief and Social Welfare Secretary Sujit Roy Nandi, Science and Technology Affairs Secretary Abdus Sabur, Forest and Environment Affairs Secretary Delwar Hossain and many others were present at that time.
Later, the leaders of Awami League’s associate bodies, including Jubo League, Chhatra League, Sechchhasebak League and other socio-cultural organizations laid wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu.
Bangabandhu, the undisputed leader of the nation and supreme commander of the country’s Liberation War, returned to the sacred soil of independent Bangladesh via London and New Delhi on January 10 in 1972, after 290 days of confinement in Pakistan jail.
Since then, the nation is observing the day as the Homecoming Day of the Father of the Nation.
The Homecoming Day of Bangabandhu this year came with an extra significance as it coincided with Father of the Nation’s birth centenary celebrations, just three months ahead of the golden jubilee of the country’s independence.
