AL announces candidates for 25 municipalities in 1st phase polls

The voting in 25 municipalities, in the first phase, will be held on December 28. For this, the Awami League has announced the names of the final candidates for each municipality. 

The final list of candidates was released at a meeting of the Bangladesh Awami League’s Local Government Public Representative Nomination Board held at Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s official residence Ganobhaban on Saturday.

Rangpur 

Elections will be held in five municipalities in the Rangpur division. Of these – Zakia Khatun for Panchagarh municipality in Panchagarh, Md. Kashirul Islam of Pirganj municipality in Thakurgaon, Khwaja Moin Uddin of Fulbari municipality in Dinajpur, Ahasanul Haque Chowdhury of Badarganj municipality in Rangpur – have been nominated as the final mayoral candidate.

Rajshahi 

Elections will be held in four municipalities of the Rajshahi division. Of these – MD. Rabiul Islam of Puthia municipality in Rajshahi district, Md. Abbas Ali of Katakhali municipality in Paba upazila of the same district, Monir Akhter Khan Toru Lodi of Shahjadpur municipality in Shahjadpur upazila of Sirajganj, Sakhawat Hossain Sakho of Chatmohar municipality in Pabna – has been nominated. 

Khulna

Elections will be held in three municipalities of the Khulna division. Among them – Al Mashum Murshed in Khoksa municipality of Kushtia, Sanat Kumar Biswas in Chalna municipality of Dakop upazila and Riazul Islam Joarddar in Chuadanga municipality of Chuadanga district – have been nominated as candidates.

Barishal 

Elections will be held in four municipalities of the Barishal division. Among them – ABM Golam Kabir in Betagi municipality of Barguna, A Barek Mollah of Kuakata municipality in Kalapara upazila of Patuakhali, Md. Gias Uddin Bepari of Wazirpur municipality in Barishal district, Md. Lokman Hossain Dakua of Bakerganj municipality of the same district – have been nominated. 

Dhaka

Elections will be held in three municipalities in the Dhaka division. Of these – Md. Ramzan Ali of Manikganj sadar municipality, Golam Kabir in Dhamrai municipality of Dhaka district, Md. Anisur Rahman of Sreepur municipality in Gazipur – have been nominated as Awami League candidates. 

Mymensingh 

Elections will be held in two municipalities of the Mymensingh division. Among them – ASM Iqbal Hossain (Sumon) in Gafargaon municipality in Mymensingh district, Md. Abdul Hannan Talukder of Madan municipality in Netrokona – have been nominated.

Sylhet  

Elections will be held in three municipalities of the Sylhet division. Among them – Biswajit Roy in Dirai municipality of Sunamganj, Abul Imam Md. Kamran Chowdhury in Baralekha municipality of Moulvibazar district, Md. Masuduzzaman Masuk in Shayestaganj municipality of Habiganj district – as the Awami League candidate.

Besides, elections will be held in one municipality of the Chattogram division where Badiul Alam has been nominated from Sitakunda municipality of Chattogram district.
