The Anti- Corruption Commission (ACC) has made a drive on allegations of irregularities in the outdoor of Khulna Medical College and Hospital (KMCH) on Monday afternoon while pads and pathology slips of private clinics and diagnostic centers were recovered from the doctors’ rooms.

Shwan Mia, assistant director of the Khulna office of the ACC, said that doctors at the hospital have been involved in the commission trade with an unregulated clinic and diagnostic centers. Diagnostic center brokers and drugstore agents were found active inside the hospital with the temporary X-rays, ECG machines.

Patients have to suffer from financial loss in exchange for extra money for the treatment in the clinics. An illegal coffin factory was recovered during the drive from the KMCH as well as a cleaner named Jahangir was also arrested on charges of possessing an illegal coffin factory.

Masumuddin Mollah, husband of a patient admitted to the Guinea ward, told that his wife was given a written slip and performed eight to ten tests from Fatima Hospital. When asked to call the phone number below the slip, they demanded Tk 4,000 for the test. Later, he made an inquiry about the matter and took the test from the government hospital with a payment of Tk 500.

ATM Manzoor Morshed, Director of Khulna Medical College Hospital, said that letters had been given to the accused to warn previously. But the doctors who are involved with the commission trade could not be controlled. We will take action against them after a meeting regarding this matter.
