97 new assistant judges appointed

The law ministry of the government has appointed 97 new assistant judges to the subordinate courts which are grappling with a staggering 3.1 million cases.

The new assistant judges have been directed to join offices on January 28, said a gazette notification issued by the law ministry in this regard on Sunday evening. 

Earlier on Sunday, Law Minister Anisul Huq in parliament said that country’s High Court and subordinate courts are currently dealing with more than 3.4 million cases. 

According to the data, 5,13,396 cases of them are at the High Court and 31,27,243 at the subordinate courts. Of these cases, 14,53,107 are civil cases, 20,90,526 criminal cases and 97,006 other cases.
