9 more die of coronavirus, 309 new infected in country

Nine more people have died from the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in the last 24 hours, raising the death toll from the pandemic to 140 in the country. Besides, 309 others were infected by the lethal virus in the country during the time. With this, the total number of positive cases climbed to 4,998.
DGHS Additional Director General (administration) Prof Nasima Sultana came up with the disclosure joining the daily health bulletin of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) through online on Saturday.
A total of 309 fresh cases were detected after testing 3,337 samples across the country over the last 24 hours, she said, adding that as many as 42,813 samples have so far tested.
About the new fatalities, Prof Nasima said that four of them are male and five female. Among the nine fatalities, seven are in their 70s, one in his 60s and one in his 50s. Among the victims, three are in Dhaka, two in Narayanganj, one each in Joypurhat, Tangail, Madaripur and Mymensingh.
The first coronavirus death was reported in the country on March 18, ten days after detection of the first COVID-19 cases.
The coronavirus, that first reported in China late last year, is now affecting 210 countries and territories around the world and 2 international conveyances. As of Saturday afternoon, a total of 2,833,958 people have been diagnosed with the virus worldwide, as the death toll rises to 197,368 while 807,578 patients have recovered.
