ICU units with 15-20 beds are being installed in nine upazilas of Khulna. The district administration is implementing this initiative in collaboration with the health directorate. Of these, 70 percent of work has been completed in Dakop and Dumuria upazilas.
Apart from Batiaghata, construction work is in full swing in other upazilas as well. This is the first local authority initiative to install ICU at the upazila level.
According to the district administration, on October 18 last year, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina instructed in a video conference to ensure modern healthcare in every upazila. The issue was discussed at the development coordination meeting of Khulna district. At the meeting, government and non-government officials, local people's representatives, politicians and all agreed to start ICU at the upazila level. Khulna district administration has been supervising this work from the beginning. Development agency JICA, Upazila Parishad and local people are financing it.
DC Mohammad Helal Hossain said the ICU units were a gift from the district administration to marginalized people on the occasion of MujibYear and golden jubilee of independence.
