80pc people will be vaccinated by April: Health Minister

Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque today said 50 percent of the country’s population would be vaccinated within December-January and 70 to 80 percent within next year’s March-April.
“We didn’t know about the coronavirus. But under the direction of the Prime Minister, we have been able to control the COVID outbreak,” he said while speaking as the chief guest at the exchange of greetings and grant-in-aid program with the celebration committee of all puja mandaps on the occasion of Durga Puja in Garpara area of Manikganj Sadar Upazila on Saturday afternoon.
Currently, there are 18,000 beds and 800 labs for Covid-19 treatment across the country. All major hospitals in the country have central oxygen lines. Covid-19 patients have been able to go to the hospital for treatment, the Health Minister said.
The minister said 27,000 people have died of coronavirus in a country with a population of 18 crores. The death rate is much lower as the country’s health system is good. COVID cases and mortality rates have dropped in the country. “We don’t want the COVID to increase again through any program. So everyone has to follow the hygiene rules,” Zahid Maleque added.
