8 get life term for killing Meherpur farmer

A local court has sentenced eight people to life imprisonment in a case filed over killing a farmer named Abubakar Shah in Meherpur. 

District and Sessions Judge SM A Salam passed the verdict on Thursday noon.

District and Sessions Judge Court Public Prosecutor PP Pallab Bhattacharya said that on June 14, 2010, farmer Abu Bakkar Shah of Karamdi village in Gangni upazila was hacked to death with a sharp weapon while going to work in the field. 

Shahabuddin, the son of the deceased, filed a murder case against 11 people at Gangni police station. Among the convicts, two died and one was given bail.

The accused are- Enamul Haque, Zahidul Islam, Abdul Bari, Ramzan Ali, Mohammad Ali, Sirajul Islam, Altaf Hossain, and Mintu Islam. They were fined Tk 10,000 each. In failure, they will have to serve one more month in jail.
