Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mustafa Jabbar said on Friday that the eventful 18-minute speech on March 7 is an unforgettable chapter in the history of the nation’s final journey to liberate from thousands of years of subjugation — the historical ladder of Liberation.
He said this while releasing the souvenirs and opening envelopes with commemorative stamps and data cards from his office in the morning in the capital.
On the occasion of the Historic Speech of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on March 7, the Directorate of Posts has released a Souvenir Sheet worth Tk 30 with two commemorative stamps worth Tk 10 each. Besides, an opening envelope worth Tk 10 and a data card worth Tk 5 have been released.
A special seal, recognized as part of UNESCO’s World’s Documentary Heritage on 30 October 2017, has used on this occasion.
Posts and Telecommunications Minister said that the speech on March 7 was Bangabandhu’s present speech, it did not have any written manuscript. “This speech was a full-fledged direction of the freedom struggle - a historic declaration,” he said.
Mustafa Jabbar said Bangabandhu’s speech on March 7 has been included in the “Memory of the World’s International Register” which is the part of UNESCO’s World’s Documentary Heritage.
UNESCO's recognition not only honored Bangabandhu’s Historic March 7 speech, but also the entire country and nation. UNESCO wrote in its introduction about the speech — “ The speech constitutes faithful documentation of how the failure of post-colonial nation-states to develop inclusively, democratic society alienates their population belonging to different ethnic, cultural, linguistic or religious groups. The speech was extempore and there was no written script,” said Posts and Telecommunications Minister.
Starting today, the GPO’s Philatelic Bureau will sell souvenir sheets and opening envelopes with commemorative stamps. Later, the commemorative stamp data card will be sold from all post offices of the country including other GPOs and main post offices. The four GPOs have special seals for use in the opening envelope.
