PM’s gift in Mujib Borsho
70,000 homeless families getting brick-built houses today

About 70,000 families are getting semi-finished brick-built houses and lands today as a gift from Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on the occasion of the birth centenary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Prime Minister, in the first phase, will inaugurate the program of handing over houses and land to about 70,000 families on Saturday. The government has already constructed 66,189 houses for the homeless at a cost of Tk 1,168 crore.
It is learned that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will officially inaugurate the project through a video conference from Ganobhaban. Later, the field level officials and local representatives will hand over the houses to the beneficiaries on behalf of the Prime Minister.
Sheikh Hasina’s government will provide houses to about 9 lakh families in phases to ensure housing for all within Mujib Borsho.
“One lakh more houses will be distributed among landless and homeless families by February next year,” said Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister Dr. Ahmad Kaikaus.
The Prime Minister’s gift is a two-room house on 871.2 sq. feet of the land. Besides, there will be a veranda, a toilet, a kitchen and an open space. The construction of the whole house will cost Tk 1.71 lakh and each family will get Tk 4000 for transporting goods.
Ashrayan-2 project director Md. Mahbub Hossain said, “No one will be homeless in the Mujib Borsho. In the first phase on January 23, the government is giving houses to 69,904 landless and homeless families across the country as part of the implementation of government’s goal.”
