7 cases of Indian Covid-19 variant found in Gopalganj

Two Gopalganj villages have placed on lockdown after the presence of the Delta variant, popularly known as the Indian variant, of coronavirus in seven samples, was detected.

The two villages which placed on locked down are Televita and Kalivita. Gopalganj Civil Sergon Dr. Sujat Ahmed came up with the development on Saturday afternoon. 

He said that strict lockdown will in force for seven days in Televita village of Boultali union and Kalivita village of Satpar union of Sadar Upazila. 

He said, “Earlier 50 samples out of a total of 252 samples collected from Televita village tested positive for Covid-19. Of them, samples of 11 were sent to Dhaka IEDCR for genome sequencing. Indian variant Delta was found in seven samples."

He also said Televita village was put on lockdown earlier for nine days. 

This time, along with Televita village, Kalivita village also put on seven days lockdown. 

Gopalganj Deputy Commissioner Shahida Sultana said, “A strict lockdown has been declared in Televita and Kalivita villages since the presence of the Delta variant was found in those two villages. Necessary steps have been taken so that no one can travel in and out of the two villages. During the lockdown period, the administration will provide necessary aid to the area.”
