6 lakh doses of Chinese Shinopharm vaccine reach Bangladesh

Six lakh doses of the Chinese Sinopharm Covid-19 vaccine arrived in Dhaka by two aircraft of Bangladesh Air this afternoon. The Chinese government sent this vaccine to Bangladesh as a gift.

Earlier on Saturday night, two aircraft of the Bangladesh Air Force left Dhaka for China to bring 6 lakh Sinopharm Covid-19 vaccine shots. 

“A total of six lakh doses of COVID-19 Sinopharm vaccine reached Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka around 5:30pm this afternoon,” Dr Md Shamsul Haque, Line Director of Maternal, Newborn, Child and Adolescent Health under Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

On May 12, Bangladesh received a gift of five lakh Sinopharm doses from China. The government has already started administering those to medical students on a priority basis. 

Bangladesh has so far approved five COVID-19 vaccines to control the deadly disease. These vaccines are “CoronaVac”, manufactured by Sinovac Life Sciences Company Limited, Pfizer mRNA Covid-19 vaccine, Covishield produced by Serum Institute of India; Sputnik V manufactured by Generium Joint Stock Company of Russia; and Sinopharm produced by Beijing Institute of Biological Products Co Ltd of China.
