Six people have been killed and two others seriously injured as a microbus hit a roadside tree after its driver lost control over the steering at Godagari Upazila in Rajshahi on Saturday.   

The accident took place at around 12:30 pm on Rajshahi-Chapainawabganj highway at Kadipur area in the Upazila. 

Three of the deceased were identified as Achia Begum, wife of Ramzan Ali of Kellabaroipara area of Godagari; Akkas Ali, son of Fazlur Rahman of Munnafer Mor area in Rajshahi city; and Mahbubur Rahman, son of Motiur Rahman of Meherchandi area. The remaining three deceased are - two women and a one-year-old child. Details about them yet to be known.

Godagari Police Station OC Khairul Islam said that the microbus carrying eight people was going to a wedding party at Godagari from Rajshahi this noon. As soon as it reached Kadipur area, the driver of the microbus lost control over the wheel and hit a roadside tree, leaving three people dead on the spot and five others injured. Later, the injured including two children were taken to the Upazila Health Complex, where a woman and two children died.

On information, police rushed to the spot, said the OC, adding that the bodies are in the process of being recovered.
