5 million doses of coronavirus (Covid-19) vaccines, ‘Covishield’, purchased by the government of Bangladesh from the Seram Institute of India have arrived in the country.

The first consignment of 5 million doses arrived in the country on a special Air India flight around 11:00 pm at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Monday.

Confirming the matter to Daily Bangladesh, Dr. Shahriar Sajjad, an official of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), said, “The vaccine came to the country through Beximco Pharmaceuticals with government funding.”

It is learned that 5 million doses of the vaccine will be taken directly from the airport to Beximco’s Tongi warehouse. Later, it will be distributed as per the government’s demand.

Earlier, Health Minister Zahid Maleque told a press conference at the Secretariat on Sunday afternoon that 5 million Covid-19 vaccines will arrive in the country on Monday. All kinds of preparations have already been completed.
