The government has allowed the export of highest 500 tons of hilsa to India on the occasion of Durga Puja, the biggest religious festival of the Hindu community.
The Commerce Ministry took the decision on Wednesday as a gesture of goodwill, said its public relations officer Md Abdul Latif Bakshi.
He said only one trader will avail of the opportunity to export hilsa to India.
The five-day Durga Puja is set to begin on October 4 next.
