50 die in country in a day, 1918 new infected

50 more COVID-19 patients died in the last 24 hours, increasing the death toll from the pandemic to 3,234 in the country. Besides, the tally of infections has surged to 2,44,020 as 1,918 new cases were confirmed during the period. 

DGHS Additional Director General (administration) Prof Nasima Sultana came up with the disclosure joining the daily health bulletin of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) online on Tuesday. 

A total of 7,712 samples have been tested at 82 authorized coronavirus testing labs across the country over the last 24 hours. So far, 12,01,156 samples have been tested, she said.

Meanwhile, 1,955 more people have recovered from the novel coronavirus in the last 24 hours, raising the total number of recoveries in the country to 1,39,860, the health official said. 

The first coronavirus death was reported in the country on March 18, ten days after the detection of the first COVID-19 cases. 

The coronavirus, that first reported in China late last year, is now affecting 213 countries and territories around the world and two international conveyances. As of Tuesday afternoon, a total of 18,463,904 people has been diagnosed with the virus worldwide, as the death toll rises to 697,737 while 11,691,464 patients have recovered, according to worldometers data.
