5 siblings of a family killed in Teknaf landslide

Five siblings of the same family have died in a landslide in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar. The incident took place at around 2 am on Tuesday in the West Pankhali Villagejarpara area of Hnila Union in Teknaf.

The deceased were identified as Shukkur, Zubair, Rahim, Kohinoor and Zainba, five children of local Syed Alam.

Teknaf executive officer Parvez Chowdhury said Syed Alam’s house was at the foot of the hill. A part of the hill collapsed on the house at around 2 am on Tuesday due to heavy rain. Syed Alam’s 3 sons and 2 daughters died on the spot. Syed Alam and his wife were injured at the time.

Earlier, a landslide at a Rohingya camp in Ukhiya on Tuesday morning killed five people, including women and children from two families and two more locals at Huaikeng and Maheshkhali. Within 15 hours, 5 people including men and women of the same family were killed when the landslide hit the hill area of Hnila.
