Five people went missing after a speedboat with 18 passengers on board capsized in the Agunmukha river in Patuakhali on Thursday evening. In this incident, 13 people including the driver were rescued alive.

The missing persons are Constable Mahibullah, Krishi Bank Inspector Mostafiz, NGO workers Kabir Hossain, Day labor Hasan and Imran.

Witnesses said a speedboat owned by Ahmed Enterprise with 18 passengers left the Koralia launch ghat in Rangabali upazila at around 5.30 pm for Galachipa Panpatti. Ignoring the adverse weather, the driver tried to cross the fiery river with the speedboat. But the speedboat sank in the middle of the river due to strong waves. An hour and a half after the accident, two other speedboats were able to rescue 13 passengers including the driver. But five are still missing.

Rangabali UNO Mashfaqur Rahman said police and the Coast Guard are working to rescue the missing.

Delwar Hossain, branch manager of Baherchar Krishi Bank in Rangabali, who was rescued, said the front floor of the speedboat burst due to the strong waves. Earlier, the passengers repeatedly asked the driver to turn the speedboat and bring it to the dock. But he did not listen to the passengers.
