5 more die, 552 new infected in 24 hours

Five more people have died from the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in the last 24 hours, raising the death toll from the pandemic to 175 in the country. Besides, 552 others have been diagnosed with the lethal virus in the country during the time. With this, the total number of positive cases climbed to 8,790.
DGHS Additional Director General (administration) Prof Nasima Sultana came up with the disclosure joining the daily health bulletin of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) through online on Saturday.
A total of 552 fresh cases were detected after testing 5,827 samples in 29 institutes including Institute of Epidemiology Disease Control And Research (IEDCR) across the country over the last 24 hours, she said, adding that as many as 76,066 samples have so far tested.
About the new five fatalities, Prof Nasima said that three of them are male and two female and among the victims, all of them are residents of Dhaka.
Meanwhile, three new people have recovered from the novel coronavirus over the past 24 hours, raising the total number of recoveries in the country to 177, the health official said.
The first coronavirus death was reported in the country on March 18, ten days after detection of the first COVID-19 cases.
The coronavirus, that first reported in China late last year, is now affecting 210 countries and territories around the world and 2 international conveyances. As of Saturday afternoon, a total of 3,402,886 people have been diagnosed with the virus worldwide, as the death toll rises to 239,653 while 1,084,606 patients have recovered, according to worldometers data.
