5 members of women smuggling ring arrested

The Organized Crime Division of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the police have arrested five people for their direct involvement in women trafficking ring. They used to force women to sell to the middlemen in India for anti-social and immoral activities.
At a press conference held at the CID office in the capital's Malibagh on Monday afternoon, the chief of the organized crime department Additional DIG Sheikh Md. Rezaul Haider informed about their arrest.
The arrestees are- Md. Shaheen, Md. Rafiqul Islam, Biplob Ghosh, Akhtarul and Md. Bablu.
Sheikh Mohammad Rezaul Haider said that Shaheen, who was arrested in this cycle, used to take women out of Dhaka by car for smuggling from different areas including Dhaka. Basically, he is a driver. Rafiqul Islam is a member of the smuggling ring in the border area of Jashore.
Women were taken to Rafiqul’s house and kept in his custody.
Then another ally of Rafiqul's cycle would reach the Jashore border area from there. From there, Bablu used to cross by boat to smuggle women.
Citing the interrogation of the accused, the CID official said that so far the gang has trafficked at least 20 women to India. They used to take women to Rafiq's house in the Jashore border area to get jobs in Malaysia and India. Then they used to smuggle them to India. Trafficking was reported in the Rajkot area of India.
Based on the information provided by the victims, he said, they were given anesthetic injections while being taken away from Dhaka. After being taken to the border area, the members of the gang used to torture them physically. The hospital report mentions physical abuse of the victims.
Based on the allegations of the victims, ringleader Jannatul alias Jerin and Mohsinuzzaman alias Pratik Khandaker Babu were arrested earlier. They used to rent a house in Dhaka as husband and wife. They used to target women and sell them to brokers in India.
Admitting to human trafficking, the ringleader Jannatul and Pratik of the cycle had given a confessional statement under section 164 in the court. A total of nine members of the ring have been arrested so far on the basis of their information.
