5 killed in Tamil Nadu firecracker shop blast

At least five people have been killed in an explosion at a firecracker shop in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Many more people were injured in the incident.
The blast took place at a shop in Sankarapuram town of Kallakurichi district on Tuesday night.
A senior police official told PTI that at least five people had been killed in the blast. It is believed that the deceased were all shop owners and employees. “Lots of firecrackers were stored in the store ahead of Diwali,” he mentioned.
He added that five of the injured in the blast have been admitted to Kallakurichi Government Hospital for treatment.
Firefighters rushed to the scene after the blast. The sudden explosion spread panic among the locals.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin expressed deep grief over the incident and promised to pay compensation of 5 lakh rupees to the families of the victims.
Besides, Chief Minister MK Stalin has announced to pay one lakh rupees for better treatment of the injured.
