5 killed in BGB, villagers clash in Matiranga

Four people, including a BGB member, have been killed in a clash between members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and villagers in Matiranga upazila of Khagrachhari. Another woman died of cardiac arrest after the incident.
The clash took place at Gazinagar Bazar in the upazila on Tuesday noon.
The deceased were identified as BGB-40 soldier Shawn, Md Sahab Miah Prakash Musa, and his wife Ranju Begum, their son Ali Ahmed, and Ali Akbar.
It has been known that Sahab Mia cut some trees in his garden in the morning. The BGB members want to seize the trees by making illegal claims. At one stage, both parties got involved in an altercation and engaged in a fierce fight leaving the four people including a BGB member dead.
Ranju Begum, the wife of Sahab Mia, suffered a massive heart attack and died subsequently as she came to know about the death of her husband and son, said Matiranga Municipality Mayor Samsul Haque.
Md Abdul Aziz, superintendent of police’s Khagrachhari, confirmed the deaths and said, "We are working to control the situation."
Deputy Commissioner of the district Protap Chandra Biswas said that senior officials visited the scene and hospital. A three-member committee has been formed to investigate the incident.
