Five people have been killed in a collision between a microbus and a truck in Narsingdi Sadar Upazila
Five people have been killed and seven others injured in a collision between a microbus and a truck in Narsingdi Sadar Upazila.
Narsingdi Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime) Saheb Ali Pathan confirmed that the accident took place at Sakura junction on Ghorashal-Panchdona road in the Upazila on Saturday night.
The deceased were identified as Mukti Akhter, 30, and her son Sadiqul, 8, Ruby Akhter, 40, her daughter Rahima, 3, and Rokeya Akhter, 52.
The houses of the victims are in Zirabo area under Ashulia police station in Savar. They were returning home from Sylhet through Panchdona turn.
The injured were sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital after primary treatment at Narsingdi Sadar Hospital.
According to locals and police sources, a microbus heading towards Ghorashal reached Sankura junction around 12:00 am and collided head-on with a freight truck coming from the opposite direction.
Three people died on the spot while nine more passengers of the microbus were injured. Police later rescued the injured with the help of locals and took them to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital.
Another child died on the way to Sadar Hospital and two women died on the way to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. The rest of the injured were sent to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital and Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Police seized the truck while its driver managed to flee.
