46 more die in a day in country, 3489 new infected

46 more COVID-19 patients died in the last 24 hours, increasing the death toll from the pandemic to 2197 in the country. Besides, the tally of infections has surged to 1,72,134 as 3489 new cases were confirmed during the time.
DGHS Additional Director General (administration) Prof Nasima Sultana came up with the disclosure joining the daily health bulletin of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) online on Wednesday.
A total of 15,672 samples were tested at 75 authorised laboratories across the country during the time. Of these, 3489 have been diagnosed with coronavirus, bringing the total number of positive cases to 1,72,134, she said.
Meanwhile, the recovery count rose to 80,838 after another 2736 patients were discharged from the hospitals during the period, the health official said.
The first coronavirus death was reported in the country on March 18, ten days after the detection of the first COVID-19 cases.
The coronavirus, that first reported in China late last year, is now affecting 213 countries and territories around the world and two international conveyances. As of Wednesday afternoon, a total of 11,756,483 people has been diagnosed with the virus worldwide, as the death toll rises to 541,086 while 6,753,131 patients have recovered, according to worldometers data.
