The construction of the Padma Bridge is progressing fast. The 30th span of the 6.15 kilometres long bridge will be installed on Jazira end by next week. With the installation of the span, 4,500 meters of the bridge will be visible.

Padma Bridge executive engineer Dewan Mohammad Abdul Quader confirmed the information on Saturday morning.

He said the 30th span would be installed on the 26th and 27th pillars at Jazira point. In the meantime, the painting of the span truss has been completed. Now work is underway to install handrail, stair, balanced load. If all goes well, the 30th span will be installed next week. Now the span is in that position, it will not take more than seven days to place it on the pillar.

Executive Engineer Abdul Quader said the 31st span is likely to be installed by mid-June. Preparations are going on in full swing. The slab is also sitting on the previously installed span every now and then. A total of 2917 roadway slabs will be placed on the upper floor of the bridge while the 2,959 slabs will be placed on the down floor. In the meantime, 2726 roadway slabs have been made. If it is possible to install these two spans before the monsoon, all the spans on the Jazira end will be installed. Then 10 spans will be left on Mawa end. As the Mawa end is in the main river, there will be no fear of char awakening. The work will be completed quickly.

Earlier, the 29th span of Bangladesh's largest Chinese-built Padma bridge has been installed amid the country's nationwide COVID-19 lockdown on May 4, making 4.35 km of the main structure of the bridge visible.
