44 die of COVID-19 in 24 hours, 2856 new infected

The tally of infections in the country has surged to 84,379after 2856 new COVID-19 cases were detected in the last 24 hours. Besides, 44 more fatalities from the virus have been reported during the time, raising the death toll from the pandemic to 1139.
DGHS Additional Director General (administration) Prof Nasima Sultana came up with the disclosure joining the daily health bulletin of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) through online on Saturday.
A total of 16,638 samples have been tested at 59 authorised coronavirus testing labs across the country over the last 24 hours. Of these, 2856 have been diagnosed with coronavirus, bringing the total number of positive cases to 84,379, she said.
Besides, 578 new people have recovered from the novel coronavirus over the past 24 hours, raising the total number of recoveries in the country to 17,827, the health official said.
The first coronavirus death was reported in the country on March 18, ten days after detection of the first COVID-19 cases.
The coronavirus, that first reported in China late last year, is now affecting 213 countries and territories around the world and two international conveyances. As of Saturday afternoon, a total of 7,751,899 people have been diagnosed with the virus worldwide, as the death toll rises to 428,488 while 3,973,203 patients have recovered, according to worldometers data.
