44 die in a day, 2617 infected in country

44 more COVID-19 patients died in the last 24 hours, increasing the death toll from the pandemic to 3,557 in the country. Besides, the tally of infections has surged to 2,69,115 as 2,617 new cases were confirmed during the period.
The information was disclosed in a press release sent from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Thursday.
According to the press release, a total of 13,162 samples have been tested at 86 authorized coronavirus testing labs across the country over the last 24 hours. Of these, 2,617 have been diagnosed with coronavirus, bringing the total number of positive cases to 2,69,115.
Meanwhile, 1,782 more people have recovered from the novel coronavirus in the last 24 hours, raising the total number of recoveries in the country to 1,54,871, the press release added.
The first coronavirus death was reported in the country on March 18, ten days after the detection of the first COVID-19 cases.
