A long 40-km traffic tail has been created from the east side of Dhaka-Bangabandhu Bridge to Pakulya of Mirzapur upazila in Tangail.
It was learned that the vehicle pressure began to increase from Tuesday evening. In the early hours of Wednesday, the pressure increased drastically. During this time, 40-km long traffic congestion was created on the highway due to several minor accidents and chaos. As a result, the drivers and the homebound people are suffering after waiting for hours.
Passengers complained that it was not the right way to try to tackle the transmission by stopping public transport while keeping everything normal. “People must go home to enjoy Eid with their loved ones.”
“People are returning home by gathering into trucks. This is increasing the risk of Covid-19,” said a passenger stuck in the tailback.
Tangail Traffic Police Sergeant Kazi Alid said the traffic was heavy on the highway since night. The tail has been created up to Mirzapur from Bangabandhu Bridge since morning. But the police are working. Traffic congestion will be resolved in a short time.
