4 killed as pickup van overturns in Tangail

Four people were killed on Saturday as a pickup overturned in a collision with a covered van at Mirzapur in Tangail. Three people were injured in the incident.

The accident took place in front of the Jui-Sithi Pump station on the Dhaka-Tangail highway of the upazila.

The deceased were identified as — Jahanur, wife of Sultan Mia of Gobindarai village of Sadullapur upazila of Gaibandha, Tapan Chandra Das, son of Amallya Chandra Das of the same area, Morjina Begum, wife of Al-Amin Mia of Gopalpur police station in Tangail, and Rasheda Begum of Rangpur. They were all reportedly working in the local Nasir Glass industry.

The injured were — Helena, Parveen and Rezia — they are undergoing treatment at Mirzapur Kumudini Hospital.  

A pickup carrying passengers from Gorai of the upazila entered the Jui-Sithi Pump station to take fuel in the morning. During this, a covered van hit the pickup from behind and the pickup overturned. Two people were killed on the spot. Two more died on the way to the hospital, said Jahidul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Gorai Highway Police Station.
