3,882 win battle against coronavirus in country

279 more people won the battle against the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) over the past 24 hours in the country. With this, the total number of recoveries has risen to 3,882. 

DGHS Additional Director General (administration) Prof Nasima Sultana came up with the disclosure joining the daily health bulletin of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) through online on Friday. 

A total of 8,582 samples have been tested in 41 coronavirus testing labs across the country over the last 24 hours. Of these, 1,202 have been diagnosed with coronavirus, bringing the total number of positive cases to 20,065, she said, adding that as many as 1,60,512 samples have so far tested. 

This is the biggest single-day spike in new cases since the first COVID-19 cases were detected in the country on March 8. 

Meanwhile, 15 more people have died from the virus in the last 24 hours, taking the death toll in the country to 298. Among the new fatalities, seven are male and eight female. Two of them were aged between 81 and 90, three between 61 and 70, eight between 51 and 60, one between 31 and 40, and one other between 21 and 30. 

The first coronavirus death was reported in the country on March 18, ten days after detection of the first COVID-19 cases. 

The coronavirus, that first reported in China late last year, is now affecting 213 countries and territories around the world and two international conveyances. As of Friday afternoon, a total of 4,540,244 people have been diagnosed with the virus worldwide, as the death toll rises to 303,586 while 1,711,539 patients have recovered, according to worldometers data.
