38 die in 24 hrs, 4019 new infected

The tally of Covid-19 infections in the country has surged to 1,53,277 after 4019 new COVID-19 cases were detected in the last 24 hours. Besides, 38 more fatalities from the virus have been reported during the time, raising the death toll from the pandemic to 1,926.

DGHS Additional Director General (administration) Prof Nasima Sultana came up with the disclosure joining the daily health bulletin of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) online on Thursday. 

A total of 18,362 samples have been tested at 70 authorized coronavirus testing labs across the country over the last 24 hours. Of these, 4,019 have been diagnosed with coronavirus, bringing the total number of positive cases to 1,53,277, she said. “A total of 8,02,697 samples have been tested.”

Meanwhile, 4,334 more people have recovered from the novel coronavirus in the last 24 hours, raising the total number of recoveries in the country to 66,442, the health official said. 

According to the latest data, the country has a detection rate of 19.10 percent, a mortality rate of 1.26 percent, and a recovery rate of 43.35 percent, Prof Nasima said adding, “Among the 38 deaths, 32 are male and 6 are female.”

The first coronavirus death was reported in the country on March 18, ten days after the detection of the first COVID-19 cases. 

The coronavirus, that first reported in China late last year, is now affecting 213 countries and territories around the world and two international conveyances. As of Thursday afternoon, a total of 10,829,109 people has been diagnosed with the virus worldwide, as the death toll rises to 519,397 while 6,048,197 patients have recovered, according to worldometers data.
