In the ongoing coronavirus situation, like last year, 36.25 lakh poor families will get Tk 2,500 as an Eid gift from the Prime Minister. In this, the government expenditure will be Tk 811 crore.
It is learned that 36,25,268 poor families were given this assistance last year. Once again, before Eid-ul-Fitr, it has been decided to give Tk 2,500 to these families.
With the approval of the Prime Minister, money will be sent to the beneficiaries before Eid through Mobile Financial Services (MFS) bKash, Rocket, Nagad and SureCash.
According to the Ministry of Finance source, many more poor families may face a new crisis in the ongoing second phase of lockdown. But there are not many poor and unemployed on this list. By listing such families, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) and the Upazila Nirbahi Officers (UNOs) have been directed to assist them from the bulk allocation of the budget in favor of each district administration. It has been asked to help the newly enrolled poor from that bulk allocation.
Earlier, the government decided to provide Tk 2,500 assistance to 50 lakh families during last year’s general holiday to curb the spread of coronavirus. Later, about 14 lakh families were not assisted as they were not eligible for assistance. Besides, 4,02,136 families could not collect the gift money as the PIN was not effective.
