3 workers burnt in boiler explosion in Sonargaon

Three workers were burnt by a boiler blast in a steel mill in Sonargaon of Narayanganj.

The incident took place on Thursday night at Rahim Steel Mill of Nayabari area under Kanchpur union of Sadar upazila.

The burnt workers were identified as Maqbool Hossain, Shamsul Haque, and Sagar, workers of Rahim Steel Mill. They were admitted to the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Workers of the Steel Mill said that the workers were working on melting iron on Thursday night like every day. Suddenly, iron melting boiler explodes and three workers sustaining burn injuries.

Later, other workers of the factory rescued the injured workers and rushed them to the burn unit of the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

As quoting doctor, DMCH police outpost SI Bachchu Mia said that Makbul sustained 90 percent burnt and other two workers sustained 20 percent burn injuries

Some workers, who are willing to disclose the name, say that the accident occurs due to the absence of necessary safety measures for workers in Rahim Steel Mill.

When contacted to Rahim Steel Mills’ authorities, they refused to talk.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sonargaon Police Station Selim Mia said, “A burnt worker was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. The other two were given primary treatment. However, no complaint was filed with the police.”
