RAB detained three human traffickers involved in the killing of 26 Bangladeshis at Tripoli in Libya during raids in different areas of the city on Tuesday night.
The arrested traffickers are – Helal Mia alias Helu of Shambhupur village in the upazila, Khabir Uddin of Laxmipur village in the municipal town, and Shahid Mia of Tatarkandi. Besides, a woman named Munni Akhter Ruposhi has been arrested as a suspect.
Bhairab’s Mohammad Ali, Mahbubur Rahman, Rajan Chandra Rishi, Shakib Mia, Saddam Hossain Akash and Shakil were killed on May 28 in Libya. The arrested brokers confessed to sending the slain youths to Libya illegally at preliminary interrogation, told Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Iftekhar Uddin, commander of RAB-14 Mymensingh, in a press briefing at his office on Wednesday.
He added that brokers had been trafficking youths from Bhairab to Libya for a long time. “They had a connection with the human traffickers of that country.”
The brokers there took hostages who were sent from here and demanded a lot of money as ransom. If they can’t pay the ransom to the brokers, they were tortured. RAB is working to bring the illegal human traffickers under the law, said Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Iftekhar Uddin.
