Special train service on Gazipur-Tongi-Dhaka route, an initiative of the Ministry of Railways, began operation from Sunday.
The initiative to launch the special service was taken in view of the ongoing traffic congestion on the 12-kilometer Dhaka-Mymensingh highway from Gazipur crossroads to Uttara in Dhaka.
According to Bangladesh Railway sources, these trains are - Turag Express train, Tangail commuter and Kaliakair commuter. The three trains will run from Joydebpur-Tongi in Gazipur to Dhaka and from Dhaka to Gazipur via Tongi.
It has been reported that the Turag Express train will leave Gazipur at 7:15 am for Dhaka. It will leave Dhaka at 5:20 pm. The Kaliakair commuter will leave Gazipur at 5:30 pm. The next day it will leave Dhaka at 1:50 pm. The Tangail Commuter will leave Gazipur at 8:20 am and leave Dhaka at 6:00 pm.
State Minister for Youth and Sports Zahid Ahsan Russel took the initiative to operate a special train service on the route to ease sufferings of the commuters.
The state minister wrote in his Facebook status on Wednesday: “To mitigate people’s misery at least a little, I have discussed the matter with Railway Minister Nurul Islam Sujan tonight and stepped up to launch special train service from Gazipur to Dhaka via Tongi.”
He also thanked the Railway Minister for taking the initiative, saying that all kinds of development initiatives will be continued in future.
