3 policemen arrested over snatching in Cox’s Bazar

Three policemen, including an SI, have been arrested in Cox's Bazar for allegedly snatching Tk 3 lakhs from a woman intimidating with pistol. Cox's Bazar district police spokesman Additional Superintendent of Police Rafiqul Islam confirmed that a case has been registered and the three arrestees have been sent to court.
He said there were allegations that the policemen did the crime in civil dress. Legal actions are being taken against all concerned after investigating the incident.
The three arrestees are SI Nur Huda Siddiqui, Constable Aminul Momenin and Mamun Mollah of Cox's Bazar city police outpost.
According to local sources, Rozina Akhtar, wife of Riaz Ahmed, a businessman from Kutubdiapara in the city, was got the victim of robbery on Monday night. A policeman was caught with the help of locals. Later, the matter was reported to Cox's Bazar Sadar Police Station by calling 999. Police went to the spot and took the arrested policeman into their custody. Two more policemen were then arrested.
Cox's Bazar Sadar Model Police Station OC Sheikh Monirul Gias said cases have been registered against all concerned under the Speedy Trial Act.
Rozina Akhter, the victim of the robbery, said she was returning with Tk 3 lakh from a relative’s house. As he approached the house, three civil policemen came in an auto-rickshaw and pointed a pistol at his head. Then when one wanted to take the bag full of money, she pulled him from behind. At that time she was hit with a pistol. When the locals came forward, the two fled the scene. A policeman held by the mob was later handed over to the police. The victim has filed a case with Cox's Bazar Sadar Police Station.
