3 killed in lightning strikes in C’nawabganj

Three people were killed in a lightning strike at Babuidang Filtipara in Jhilim UP of Sadar upazila and Alishapur village in Fatehpur UP of Nachole upazila in Chapainawabganj on Thursday afternoon. Another was critically wounded.

Jhilim UP chairman Ashraful Islam Matu and Nachole police OC Selim Reza confirmed the matter.

The deceased have been identified as Mesbaul Haque Mishu, son of Nazrul Islam of Battala Hatpara area of ​​Chapainawabganj municipality, Abdur Rahman, son of Daud Ali of Battala Shankarbati area and Farzana, daughter of Abdur Rahman of Alishapur village of Fatehpur union in Nachole upazila. 
The injured was identified as Tariqul Islam, hailing from the Battala Hatpara area who went to pick mangoes with two deceased.

Councilor Abdul Barek, eyewitness Shahjahan and chairman of Jhilim UP Matiur Rahman Moti said the deceased Mishu and Abdur Rahman bought a mango orchard in Philtipara of Jhilim UP based on partnership. Mishu was picking mangoes and Abdur Rahman was cooking around 5 pm on Thursday. Two people died on the spot when lightning struck with rain at that time.

Meanwhile, when Tariqul Islam was seriously injured, the locals rescued him and admitted him to the 250-bed Chapainawabganj District Hospital. 

On the other hand, Farzana Khatun died on the spot when lightning struck while fetching a swan in the field before the rain at around 4 pm, said Nachole Police Station OC Selim Reza.

Sadar Upazila Project Implementation Officer Moudud Alam Khan said the matter has been reported to the municipal authorities. The families of the deceased will be provided financial assistance.
