2744 infected, 42 die in a day in country

The tally of infections in the country has surged to 2,13,751 after 3504 new COVID-19 cases were detected in the last 24 hours. Besides, 42 more fatalities from the virus have been reported during the time, raising the death toll from the pandemic to 2751.
DGHS Additional Director General (administration) Prof Nasima Sultana came up with the disclosure joining the daily health bulletin of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) through online on Wednesday.
A total of 12,050 samples have been tested at 80 authorised coronavirus testing labs across the country over the last 24 hours. Of these, 2744 have been diagnosed with coronavirus, bringing the total number of positive cases to 2,13,751, she said.
Meanwhile, the recovery count rose to 1,17,202 after another 1,805 patients were discharged from the hospitals in the past 24 hours, the health official said.
The first coronavirus death was reported in the country on March 18, ten days after detection of the first COVID-19 cases.
The coronavirus, that first reported in China late last year, is now affecting 213 countries and territories around the world and two international conveyances. As of Wednesday afternoon, a total of 15,107,948 people have been diagnosed with the virus worldwide, as the death toll rises to 619,817 while 9,128,335 patients have recovered, according to worldometers data.
