26 deaths in Shibchar: Speedboat owner arrested

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested Chan Miah alias Chandu, one of the speedboat owners in a case filed over the speedboat accident that killed 26 people in Shibchar upazila of Madaripur.
Confirming the information, Khandaker Al Moyeen, Legal and Media Wing Director of RAB, on Sunday said that the elite force members in a drive arrested Chan Miah from Keraniganj.
Further details regarding the arrest will be disclosed at a press conference in today’s afternoon, he said.
In the early hours of May 3, 26 people were killed as the speedboat carrying them crashed into a sand-laden bulk carrier in the Padma river in Shibchar.
Latr, naval police filed the case with Shibchar Police Station accusing four people. The accused in the case are leaseholder of Shimulia Ghat Shah Alam Khan, owners of the speedboat Chandu Mia and Jahirul Islam and its driver Shah Alam.
