Japan has sent 2,45,200 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine under the COVAX facility in the first consignment today.
A Cathay Pacific Airways flight carrying AstraZeneca vaccines consignment arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 3:30 pm on Saturday.
Foreign Minister Dr. AK Abdul Momen has received the vaccines.
This is the first consignment out of the 2.9 million vaccines that Japan will be providing to Bangladesh.
Abdul Momen added that the government has already made arrangements for commercial procurement as well as procurement of more corona vaccines from various sources under COVAX facilities to ensure continued supply of vaccines to the people.
COVAX is co-led by CEPI, Gavi and WHO, alongside key delivery partner UNICEF. In the Americas, the PAHO Revolving Fund is the recognized procurement agent for COVAX.
