2 lakh 45 thousand doses of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine provided by Japan under the global coronavirus vaccine initiative COVAX are arriving in the country on Saturday.
Professor Dr. Robed Amin, a spokesperson and a line director of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), confirmed this on Friday.
“We have learned from a letter from the World Health Organization that 245,000 doses of the vaccine will arrive in the country from Japan on Saturday,” he said, adding that it could not be confirmed yet in which flights the vaccine will arrive.
Robed Amin said those who have been given the first dose of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine before will be given the second dose. Hopefully, we will be able to start vaccination activities soon.
It is to be mentioned that the Oxford vaccine can be stored at room temperature in the refrigerator. As a result, the vaccine is relatively easy to reach anywhere in the world.
