At least 24 people were killed in an armed attack at a drug rehabilitation center in the northern Mexican city of Irapuato. Seven more people were injured in the incident.
According to Al Jazeera, the incident took place at a drug rehab center located in Guanajuato state on Wednesday night, the Mexican police said on Wednesday.
The governor of the province, Diego Sinhué Rodríguez, confirmed the news of the deadly attack. This is the second such attack in the city in the past month.
Police said the attackers entered the rehab center and opened fire indiscriminately.
It is reported that armed assailants in a red truck approached the scene and opened fire at the patients. Then they fled the scene.
This was the deadliest attack since President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador took office 19 months ago, pledging to reduce record levels of violence. Last year, the country hits a new record of homicides and there is no sign of a decline in 2020.
On June 6, 10 people were killed when gunmen opened fire in a rehabilitation center for drug addicts in Irapuato. Besides, 26 people were killed in an arson attack by suspected gang members on a bar in the southern Mexican port of Coatzacoalcos last August.
