23 die, 860 fresh cases counted in 24hrs

Bangladesh has reported 23 more Covid-19 deaths in the last 24 hours, bringing the tally of infections from the pandemic to 27,510.
The overall caseload, on the other hand, stood at 15,55,911 as 860 more people were tested positive for the virus in the preceding 24 hours.
It was said in a press release signed by Professor Dr. Nasima Sultana, Additional Director General (Administration) of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Thursday.
The DGHS press release said the recovery count rose to 15,15,979 after another 979 patients were discharged from the hospitals in the span of 24 hours.
DGHS says as many as 26,569 samples were tested at 815 centers across the country in the last 24 hours with a “detection rate of 3.24 percent”.
The DGHS statistics showed of the people infected from the beginning, 97.43 percent recovered while 1.77 percent died.
Among the 23 deceased, 11 were men and 12 were women.
The highest single-day deaths 264 from Covid-19 were reported on Tuesday (August 10).
Bangladesh reported the first Covid-19 cases on March 8, 2020, and the first death from the virus was reported on March 18.
